What Are Chakras?
The word “chakra” comes from Sanskrit, meaning “wheel” or “disk.” Chakras are spinning energy centers within your subtle body — the energetic layer that exists alongside your physical body. While you can’t see them, you can certainly feel their effects.
Think of chakras like energetic organs. Just as your physical organs process food and blood, your chakras process life force energy (called “prana” in Sanskrit). When they’re balanced and open, energy flows freely, and you feel vibrant, connected, and alive. When they’re blocked or imbalanced, you may experience physical symptoms, emotional challenges, or a sense that something is “off.”
The Seven Main Chakras
🔴 Root Chakra (Muladhara)
Location: Base of the spine
Color: Red
Governs: Security, survival, grounding, basic needs
When balanced, you feel safe, stable, and secure in your life. When imbalanced, you may experience anxiety, fear, or feel “ungrounded.”
🟠 Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana)
Location: Lower abdomen
Color: Orange
Governs: Creativity, emotions, pleasure, sexuality
When balanced, you feel creative, emotionally fluid, and comfortable with intimacy. When imbalanced, you may struggle with emotional instability or creative blocks.
🟡 Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura)
Location: Upper abdomen
Color: Yellow
Governs: Personal power, confidence, will, self-esteem
When balanced, you feel confident, motivated, and in control of your life. When imbalanced, you may experience low self-esteem, indecision, or control issues.
💚 Heart Chakra (Anahata)
Location: Center of the chest
Color: Green
Governs: Love, compassion, connection, forgiveness
When balanced, you give and receive love freely and feel connected to others. When imbalanced, you may struggle with relationships, hold grudges, or feel closed off.
🔵 Throat Chakra (Vishuddha)
Location: Throat
Color: Blue
Governs: Communication, truth, self-expression
When balanced, you speak your truth clearly and listen deeply. When imbalanced, you may struggle to express yourself or feel unheard.
🔮 Third Eye Chakra (Ajna)
Location: Between the eyebrows
Color: Indigo
Governs: Intuition, wisdom, insight, imagination
When balanced, you trust your intuition and see clearly. When imbalanced, you may feel disconnected from your inner wisdom or struggle with clarity.
👑 Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)
Location: Top of the head
Color: Violet or white
Governs: Spirituality, connection to the divine, consciousness
When balanced, you feel connected to something greater than yourself. When imbalanced, you may feel spiritually disconnected or overly attached to material things.

| Sacral | Reproductive issues, lower back pain | Emotional numbness, guilt |
| Solar Plexus | Digestive issues, metabolism problems | Low self-esteem, anger |
| Heart | Heart/lung issues, upper back pain | Jealousy, loneliness |
| Throat | Thyroid issues, neck pain | Communication problems |
| Third Eye | Headaches, vision problems | Confusion, lack of purpose |
| Crown | Neurological issues | Depression, disconnection |
Simple Practices to Balance Your Chakras
Meditation
Visualize each chakra as a spinning wheel of its corresponding color. Imagine the wheel spinning freely and glowing brightly.
Breathwork
Focused breathing can activate and balance chakras. Try breathing into the area of each chakra while visualizing its color.
Movement
Yoga poses are specifically designed to activate different chakras. Even simple stretching can help energy flow.
Sound
Each chakra responds to specific sounds or mantras. Chanting “LAM” for root, “VAM” for sacral, and so on can activate these centers.
Color Therapy
Surround yourself with the colors of chakras you want to balance — through clothing, decor, or visualization.
